Your script needs to be imprinted with your own originality in order to stand out. In a fun and supportive classroom environment, we will work together to figure out the type of story that you alone are uniquely qualified to tell. Through discussion and writing exercises we will work together to help you will find your voice, explore the full potential of your Big Idea and discover the most original approach to developing it into a fully realized screenplay. In this course we focus on The Art of the Pitch, and discuss strategies and approaches to getting your screenplay read and produced. This is the perfect class for the motivated screenwriter.

JON BERNSTEIN wrote the screenplay for Disney’s MEET THE ROBINSONS, which
won a Heartland Film Award and was a Truly Moving Picture recipient. He is a
contributing writer to Disney’s TANGLED (2010) and Universal’s THE LITTLE
ENGINE THAT COULD (2011). He wrote the screenplays RINGMASTER, starring
Jerry Springer and Jaime Pressly, and BEAUTIFUL, starring Minnie Driver and directed
by Sally Field. He is the creator of the CW television series, PLEASE DON’T KILL
THE FRESHMAN. Screenwriting credits include MYSTERY MAN (Tony
Richardson, director), VALLEY OF THE DOLLS (Twentieth Century Fox, Betty
Thomas, director), FOUL PLAY (Paramount, Robert Evans, producer), THE ENGLISH
BUTLER (Paramount, Rupert Everett, star, Donald DeLine, producer), HORTON
HATCHES THE EGG (DreamWorks, based on book by Dr. Seuss) and THE
MAGICAL DRAWINGS OF MOONY B. FINCH (Sony, Hal Lieberman, producer).
Jon currently teaches Beginning, Intermediate and Advanced Screenwriting at
UCLA Extension.
