W O R D S P A C E  is now a non-profit organization as a member of the PAC (Pasadena Arts Council) EMERGE Fiscal Sponsorship Program:

Please help us sustain the Los Angeles writing community.

$5 or 500 helps us continue providing a creative

haven for writers and audiences on the East Side.

Since reopening at our new location in Atwater this past May, Wordspace has:

Worked with hundreds of writers on new works of fiction, nonfiction, drama & poetry.

Hosted over
50 Events for Wordspace, Los Angeles Conservancy, Public Works, Les Figues, Title 3, Featherless and more. Brought in 4,500 faces for events, workshops, readings, and seminars...Supported over 300+ writers in readings and performances.

Whether in fiction, script, poetry, CNF, memoir or hybrid forms,
WORDSPACE finds ways to create time and energy for emerging and established voices.
The writers in our community are from diverse cultural and artistic backgrounds and through an approach that attends to
creative and critical approaches to writing and performance, Wordspace challenges all participants to create excellent work.

New workshops for the Winter include Inspired Screenplay w/Jon Bernstein, Adventures in Memoir w/Erin Jourdan,

Solo Performance
w/EricTrules, and Morning Write w/Brenda Varda - Plus WORDLAB and COLLAB.

Wordspace’s goal is to keep our programming just as rich throughout the coming year: already we’ve scheduled 3 play readings, booked another 10 collaborative events, and filled our regular ongoing slate of workshops. Plus, students and workshop participants continue to complete film scripts, plays, memoirs, solo performance works, novels, & short stories while in the Wordspace.

The studio produces its own brand of creative inspiration; this year, along with our regular
OPEN WORDSPACE, FEATHERLESS
, and other performance opportunities, we are adding podcasts, author discussions, music/lyric workshops, plus web & media training.

Many of our programs are self supporting, but we would like a broader base so that we can expand service to the community. Our contribution goal is $30,000 for this year. This would allow us to:

  •       Provide great teachers for low cost and free writing workshops for local teens
  •       Hire community outreach and marketing assistance to reach a wider writing audience
  •       Fund Wordspace Creative Collaborations with local non-profits (see last years’ list)
  •       Create Wordspace publication of new works
  •       Continue low class fees for writers (about 2/3 of the cost at other institutions)
  •       Establish non-profit status for Write Los Angeles, our L.A. dedicated writing branch
